Winter’s Coming – Time for Nordic Prints!

Back in 2010, Dolce & Gabbana launched their apres-ski style collection and brought back Nordic print to its full glory. The collection featured cosy knitwear with snowflakes and deers, cables and furry boots.

Hosiery companies started catching up and included 1-2 styles with Nordic prints in their fall/winter collections since then – some making microfiber tights in lighter weights, and others using warmer and heavier yarns such as wool and cotton.

Our favorite style features Nordic print that stops at mid-thigh, creating a mock-over-the-knee look.

Cecilia de Rafael available at The Stylish Fox

We are happy to announce that The Stylish Fox now stocks Cecilia de Rafael hosiery, the brand from Spain that has been gaining a huge popularity in the US. And no wonder – the quality and look of the hosiery offered by CDR are superb, and all at reasonable prices. Cecilia de Rafael is especially well-known for their glossy pantyhose and tights the appearance of which ranges from glass-like finish (Agata) to holographic shimmer (Sevilla).

The other popular hosiery styles from Cecilia de Rafael are their sheer seamless pantyhose (Miss 320) and completely opaque shiny tights Uppsala.

(See descriptions of these styles on our website)

We recently added two new styles: Coral 424 – absolutely amazing 60 Denier tights with a slight sheen and a silky feel (quite unusual for opaque tights that are always made from microfiber that won’t provide any glide), and Yupi – unisex knee-highs with graduated compression (these compression socks will be very useful if you spend a lot of time standing or sitting). The knee-highs are built anatomically so that there is no pinching in the toe, or rolling or squeezing in the top band.

No matter what style you choose from Cecilia de Rafael hosiery, you will enjoy all-day comfort and a superb look that will instantly boost your confidence.

Stay foxy!

Hosiery with Open Toes

Have you been in a situation when you had to attend a formal event and wear stockings, and the only pair of shoes you could wear were peep-toe shoes? Well, it did happen to me years ago, and I wish I had these open-toe stockings to wear with my pumps. I have heard women say that your leg skin wouldn’t match your toes then but that’s a bit silly statement. We wear lots of things that don’t match our skin color, including makeup. When you wear black pantyhose or thigh-thighs, you are not expecting them to match the rest of your skin, right? So what’s wrong with open-toe hosiery? Nothing really. In fact, I wish it came in other colors, apart from the basic black and nude, and also in different thicknesses, ’cause I really love my peep-toe shoes!

More and more hosiery manufacturers are adding open-toe pantyhose to their range. Marilyn, actually made open-toe thigh-highs this year. Some women may find this style even more convenient for summer than open-toe pantyhose.

So far, I have seen two types of open-toe construction – one has a loop that goes around your big toe, which also can be called a toe “thong”, and the other construction is a lot simpler – there is a little seam that separates the big toe from the rest of the toes.

Pictures are better than words, so here you go…

Tropea open-toe pantyhose by Trasparenze (with the loop)

This pantyhose is the sheerest we’ve seen, 8 Deniers. It’s the perfect ultra-sheer fabric for a hot weather.

Eveline open-toe pantyhose by Fiore is a little thicker, 15 Deniers, but still pretty sheer. 15 Denier thickness is considered the “ideal” one for those who appreciate very sheer look but still would like better durability.

No loops here; just a little seam separating the big toe from the rest of the toes.

And finally, Marilyn’s Nudo NF open-toe thigh-highs in 15 Denier thickness. These have the same toe construction as Eveline pantyhose, except the toe area is narrower.

Inspiration from Catwalks

You may have noticed that hosiery was present in all forms on recent catwalks. Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall-Winter 2012/2013 collection was quite stunning, and nearly every look included sheer plain or patterned knee-highs or ankle socks. Now, if you aren’t living in warm Italy, you may find it a bit cold if you go out in just sheer socks in fall or winter, but you can certainly “rock” this look this summer or spring.

We have put together several styles that look very similar to D&G hosiery but will cost you a lot less.

Fiore Jodie patterned knee-highs, $4.50.

Fiore Noella patterned knee-highs, $4.99

On the right – Veneziana Girasole patterned knee-highs, $7.80

On the right – Veneziana Girasole patterned ankle socks, $7.50

Fashion Trend – Ankle Socks and Knee-Highs

If you’d been peeking at me as I peeked at the latest knee-high and ankle-high vintage hosiery fashions, you would have seen my face light up!  These fashions are like combining the knee-high socks of yesteryear with the current designer looks of Europe.

It’s incredibly exciting to see fashions like these finally arriving in the United States.  As I’m writing this, I’m picturing all the fashionable outfits in my closet that would look just perfect with either the sheer, patterned ankle socks or knee-highs.  Have you seen them?  They’re the new must-have accessories in anyone’s wardrobe!

Now that winter is winding down, I’ll bet you’re just dying to pull on some sheer, tastefully designed hosiery that says, “Hey, it’s finally spring…and the sunshine wants me to dance!”  Quite frankly, I believe that this new, appealing look that emphasizes femininity with every step is going to change the way women dress.  Ankle socks are perfect for wearing with just about anything that falls above the ankle, but I see them as particularly alluring with short skirts, dressy shorts, and capris.  Just remember the high heels—they really accentuate that boardwalk look.

The knee-high look is great fun, too!  It’s extremely versatile and allows for individual tastes.  The many sheer, patterned designs that feature shapely calves lend themselves to many different fashion genres.  They can help you create a look that is both vintage and trendy.  Pair them with pretty floral dresses and short, flared skirts that hit at or above the knee.  This is how they used to be worn in “the good old days,” but you can also create a new look—it’s worth experimenting with these latest ankle-high and knee-high offerings.  I’ve been waiting a long time for these particular fashions to return, and I anticipate that they will become very popular in short order.

Of course, fashion comes with a price.  But I’ve noticed that the prices are extremely reasonable for these particular fashions.  Yes, that’s right—we can all afford trendy, upscale hosiery that sets us apart from the pantyhose crowd for a mere pittance.  And, remember, vintage is “in,” and these new fashions in hosiery are leading the trend.  If you have vintage leanings…or just wish to project stylish femininity, these fashions are definitely worth exploring.

Spring is here…and that means out with the old, and in with the new!
